Apparently not.
Is there a lesson there for enlightened entrepreneurs?

It’s hard to avoid getting dragged into the constant political commentary, neglecting what’s more urgent and important in our lives. In Canada, we’re fiercely opposed to Trump’s abuse of economic power and in the U.S. there’s the constant media blitzkrieg of exaggerated claims, lies and misleading information from both sides of the political divide to manipulate fear and anger and gain support for their cause. I’ve stated my own point of view, elsewhere, that we all need to listen and engage with each other, then step up and speak up, not shut up and back up.
But what can we learn from all the noise for enlightened entrepreneurs.
I’ve previously expressed my opinion that character matters in the leadership of any organisation. A year ago, when it seemed impossible to me that Donald Trump could be re-elected President of the US, I thought character still mattered. Apparently, it does not.
In a democracy where angry, fearful and ignorant electors can me persuaded that character and qualifications for the job don’t matter, because “I agree with what he wants to do for me, and the guy gets shit done!” “The rest doesn’t matter to me,” is left unsaid. And the unintended consequences are ignored until it’s too late. And “They also don’t matter to me.”
Trump’s re-election confirmed that results are all that matter, character is not important. Contrary to my opinion.

I have even followed that same theme in my Business is Like Golf posts. See: https://www.learningentrepreneurship.com/post/character-makes-a-difference
So, if recent experience contradicts our expectations and understanding of what’s important, then what can we learn as enlightened entrepreneurs of good character?
First:
Stop pontificating high-minded principles and brave plans for the future. Get shit done, now!
People who want to follow your lead need to know that you can actually deliver what you promise.
Then:
Don’t lie about what you actually accomplished, don’t take credit for something you did not do, don’t make excuses or look for somebody else to blame. Then you’ll attract a cult-like following of true believers, motived supporters, and qualified players to join your team and get more shit done!
If you prove you’re qualified, and demonstrate the values and ethics of good character, they’ll work as hard as you do and to push through all the hell and high water that may lie ahead.
Be better. Do Better. Be an Enlightened Entrepreneur.
