Old entrepreneurs and advisors like me occasionally wonder if we’ve become obsolete. Do we still have good advice to share?

My conclusion is obvious from the constant writing, posting, and publishing of my words of wisdom and advice based on the lessons learned from my decades of experience in entrepreneurship, management and leadership.

Some of my knowledge and skill sets are definitely obsolete, of course. I did my

MBA at McGill more than fifty years ago when personal computers and cell phones had not yet been invented and retired from an active business management and consulting role twenty-five years ago.

Technology has continued to rapidly evolve and young managers and entrepreneurs have new tools to apply to the challenges and the plans for their

careers and their businesses. Global data bases are accessible for research and analysis and high-powered data processing and software applications, now including specialized AI apps for every industry, make it easier to develop and deliver solutions for every situation.

But fundamental principles to guide leadership and management decisions for success still apply. Good advice does not go obsolete. As I look back over past articles and my two business books of advice for entrepreneurs, I’ve found some fundamental principles that are worth repeating and still applicable to the modern world of work and business.

Here is a short selection of useful guiding principles to keep in mind for yourself:

·       Have a purpose. Have a plan.

·       Be better. Do better.

·       Don’t waste time.

·       Don’t do it the hard way.

·       Just do it.

·       Fail fast and try again.

·       Make work fun.

·       Constantly curious.

·       Continuous improvement.

·       Create lasting value.

·       Sales solve everything.

·       Good management makes a difference.

I’m sure you have your own list of important guiding principles. It’s worth writing them down for occasional review and a reminder that good advice does not go obsolete.

Be better. Do better.

Be an Enlightened Entrepreneur.

Del Chatterson
