I’m Allergic. To Stupidity and Incompetence.

At my age and stage of life, I have less patience and tolerance for performance and people that don’t meet my expectations. Not that I have high unreasonable expectations.

I’m old enough to have learned not to expect outstanding performance from everyone all the time. But I’ve discovered that I react badly - physically, emotionally, psychologically – to people who just don’t care and are so self-obsessed that they neglect anything that doesn’t flatter their ego and their inflated sense of self-importance.

I’m too busy with my own priorities and projects to spend time complaining and correcting the resulting stupidity; or to try coaching people who are unwilling and unable to raise their competence to minimum levels of acceptable performance.

So, I’ve started to be more selective about who I work with and who I choose to spend time with. You may have noticed.

Please don’t take it personally. I have an allergic condition that requires me to avoid stupidity and incompetence. You may have the same affliction.

There is no cure. Be wary of exposure to any occurrence of either and avoid them both if you can.

Be better. Do better.
